Raleigh – House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Mecklenburg) released the following statement today regarding Governor Bev Perdue’s decision to not seek re-election:
“Governor Perdue has had a long and dedicated career in public service in North Carolina. All too often, the sacrifices of public officials go unnoted, so I acknowledge her hard work and her years of service to the state. Whether we agree with her politics or not, we all should respect her for her commitment to North Carolina over these many years.
Republicans in the General Assembly have disagreed deeply with the Governor over many issues, but I am hopeful we can find opportunities in her remaining time in office to work on legislative matters that will become a part of her legacy, and do so for the good of all North Carolinians. I wish Governor Perdue and her family the very best.”

 Richard Moore
Congratulations to Richard Moore, the new Vice-Chairman of the Cabarrus County GOP. Moore was unanimously chosen by the Executive Board Tuesday night to fill the vacated seat following the death of Larry Griffin.
Richard Moore is a lifetime resident of Cabarrus County and a long time activist within the Cabarrus County Republican Party and the Cabarrus Republican Men’s Club.
Prior to being elected to the Cabarrus County Executive Board nine years ago, Moore served as the CabarrusGOP.org WebMaster for several years.
On top of faithfully fulfilling his duties to the Cabarrus County Republican party, Richard has also represented the County Party as an At-Large member of the 8th District and the NC State Executive Committees, where he still serves to this day.
He is well known throughout the District for his efforts to promote the principles of the Republican Party, assisting other county organizations within the District and helping to elect good conservative Republicans to office. In 2010, he was recognized as one of the driving forces behind wresting control of both Houses of the NC General Assembly for the Republican Party for the first time over a century.
Moore served as the County Campaign Chairman or Coordinator for Congressman Robin Hayes during three campaigns and has served as County Campaign Coordinator, Treasurer, Consultant, or steadfast worker for many local, district and state candidates through the years.
During the course of more than a decade now, Richard has served as the County Convention Chairman, the County Convention Credentials Chairman, and the District Convention Credentials Chairman, as well as substituting for the Chairman on numerous occasions during general monthly meetings.
Richard is also an ordained minister and will soon be retiring from a long and distinguished career with IBM to spend more time serving our Lord and his fellow man.
As the new Vice-Chairman of the Cabarrus County GOP, Richard plans to work tirelessly within the local precincts to get more people involved within the local party. He also hopes to fulfill the mission of his recently departed dear friend Larry Griffin.
Griffin, a former U.S. Air Force career officer, served as Party Chairman and and most recently was re-elected as the County’s Vice-Chairman. Griffin was a mentor to local conservative activists including Richard Moore.
The authors of the upcoming book, Waking the Sleeping Giant: How Mainstream Americans Can Beat Liberals at Their Own Game, will be the keynote speakers at the January 5th meeting of the Cabarrus County GOP.
The meeting will be held at 7:00 pm at Paramount Catering, which is located above the Speakeasy Ale House at 9 Union Street North in downtown Concord. Come early to eat or simply to enjoy Republican fellowship at 6:30. Paramount offers an amazing meal for $10, tip included.
Drs. Tim Daughtry and Gary Casselman will describe the cultural strategy and political tactics that have given the liberal minority such disproportionate power in American politics.
“Mainstream Americans confuse civics with politics,” said Daughtry. “We’re the
summer tourists of politics and liberals are the locals. We vote and then we go home to push the lawnmower. The left stays behind and pushes their agenda, and they are winning because they dominate the cultural institutions that shape the terms of the debate.”
As owners of Concord Bridge Consulting in Greensboro, Daughtry and Casselman equip mainstream citizens with practical methods to use in the struggle to restore constitutional government.

North Carolina law allows any individual or registered political action committee to contribute up to $4,000 per election. Corporate contributions and contributions from foreign nationals are prohibited. NC law also requires political action committees to report the name, mailing address, job title or profession, and name of the employer for individuals contributing in excess of $50 in an election cycle. Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
In order to comply with all current lobbying and election laws this committee has requested and received the following formal written opinions from the North Carolina Legislative Services Office which the State Board of Elections has said in a written opinion they would defer to for any ethical question:
*Under G.S. 120C-700(8), the lobbying laws do not apply to a political action committee.
*Under S.L. 2006-201, which became effective January 1, 2007, contributions to this PAC made by lobbyists or lobbyist principals, would be permitted. Since the PAC is not a lobbyist or lobbyist principal (exempt under G.S. 120C-700 (8), the gift ban does not appear to apply.
